Nick Cave and Grinderman, Brisbane
9:43a.m. 22 October 2007 | By Mark Chapman
Nick Cave is heading to Brisbane. For two nights the Tivoli will host not only the Nick Cave Solo band, but also Grinderman, his departure into what some have described as garage rock – essentially the same four musicians, but in very different contexts. On the 25 and 26 October, you will be able to experience these two sides of the Cave coin with moving piano renditions of Bad Seeds favourites as well as the guitar driven, somewhat psychedelic howl of Grinderman.
Grinderman came together in early 2004, during a songwriting experiment for the Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds double album. Over a period of four days in a tiny studio in Paris, the group laid the basic foundation for Grinderman. In February 2006, they entered Metropolis Studios in London for a frenzied, five-day marathon of demo sessions, creating several hours of raw material. The best of this was distilled into what would become the newborn Grinderman’s powerful debut.
